Online donations to the South Bay Community Network
The South Bay Community Network, Inc., also known as "SBAY" or "sbay.org",
is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation.
The organization depends on donations from participants, supporters and
others whose trust we have earned.
Tax-deductible donations
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization,
donations to SBAY qualify as deductible from income taxes
under IRS rules in the United States.
Here's the usual note everyone has to add to that... If you have
circumstances which may prevent you from using such tax deductions,
advice about your specific tax situation can only come from a properly
licensed professional whom you hire. Sorry, they're very picky about that.
Special Interest Groups
The following Special Interest Groups (SIGs) listed in alphabetical
order are organized under Section 12 of the corporate By-Laws and
are all part of the non-profit corporation.
Donations to SBAY
A donation to the non-profit corporation which does not have instructions
to allocate it to a specific SIG is what we call an "unrestricted" donation
because they may be used for any expenses of the corporation.
The Board of Directors can approve allocation of such funds to any SIG
as needed, or for centrally-managed corporate functions
(such as Internet domain fees, server maintenance, etc)
which all the SIGs need and benefit the entire community.
The corporation is an all-volunteer organization.
It does not have any employees.
Under IRS 501(c)3 rules, funds are not allowed to be distributed to
individuals except as reimbursement of reasonable expenses made on
behalf of the corporation.
SIG donations
It is possible to direct an online donation to a specific SIG.
We also provide an option to make a donation 90% to a SIG and 10%
to SBAY to cover centrally-managed functions which the SIGs also use and need.
Notes
- Online donations to Direxant and RadioExam will be possible
after completion of their SIG incubation process and approval by
the Board of Directors, a process which they are working through.
- An allocation of a donation to a SIG cannot outlast the SIG.
Organizations evolve over time and cycles happen. If at any time in the
future a SIG ceases to exist, funds which remain allocated to it could be
released to the treasury where it can benefit the rest of the community.
Donations by postal mail
Make checks payable to
South Bay Community Network.
If you wish to allocate the donation to a specific SIG,
or 90% to a SIG and 10% to SBAY,
include a comment or attached paper with those instructions.
Send checks and the specific SIG instructions to the treasurer at
the following address:
South Bay Community Network
c/o Warren Turkal, Treasurer
226 Echo Ave #3
Campbell CA 95008
Donations which are not accompanied by instructions for allocation to
a specific SIG are allocated 100% to SBAY. These may be allocated to any
SIG or centrally-managed corporate function as needed.
Notes
- Mailed donations to Direxant and RadioExam will be possible
after completion of their SIG incubation process and approval by
the Board of Directors, a process which they are working through.
- An allocation of a donation to a SIG cannot outlast the SIG.
Organizations evolve over time and cycles happen. If at any time in the
future a SIG ceases to exist, funds which remain allocated to it could be
released to the treasury where it can benefit the rest of the community.
Thank you!
We appreciate your donation. While many things can be accomplished by
volunteers, everything that requires money is made possible by donations
like yours. These help make our projects possible. Thank you.
